SIR EDMUND HILLARY WRITING

Sir Edmund Hillary was born on 20th of July 1919. Edmund Hillary became interested in climbing when he was sixteen years old. He spent his childhood in Tuakau, a rural area just south of Auckland where he went to the local primary school. Hillary was gifted with an active imagination and had a passion for reading adventure stories, something I can relate to. On 29 May 1953 Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. Hillary's first major climb, at age 20, was Mount Ollivier, also in New Zealand's Southern Alps. His legacy was becoming the first person to climb mount Everest.
